A new statewide poll commissioned by the Michigan Radiological Society shows overwhelming opposition to legislation (HB 4399 and SB 268) that would allow nurse practitioners without formal imaging training to independently interpret diagnostic scans. Eight in ten Michigan voters (80%) oppose the proposal—including strong majorities across party lines and all regions of the state. Support for physician-led healthcare teams remains equally strong, with 85% of voters backing legislation to ensure physicians lead care teams and that all healthcare providers’ titles and training are clearly identified. The results highlight broad, bipartisan agreement that Michigan’s healthcare system should remain physician-led to protect patient safety and maintain diagnostic accuracy.
